On May 3 and May 10 2018, the Members Church of God International (MCGI) in Auckland attended the blood donation drive at NZ Blood Services Takapuna (NZBS) to donate blood. As part of the church’s doctrine to do good unto others, the brethren from Auckland decided to make time and effort to support the blood letting event which resulted in 24 attendees and 19 bags of successful donation. Another batch of blood donors of MCGI Auckland came on May 10, 2018 at NZBS Takapuna to donate blood. MCGI in Auckland have been quarterly donating blood since 2013 and the number of donors continue to increase. There are now 47 blood donors registered in NZBS Takapuna. The continuous support of the church is helping NZBS to achieve its goal of increasing the donation numbers to meet the growing demands of blood products across the country. According to NZBS, 29,000 patients are treated with blood products in New Zealand each year but only four percent of eligible New Zealanders donate. One of the main benefits of regularly donating blood is that it lowers the risk of cardiovascular diseases like heart attack. But apart from the physical benefits, the brethren of MCGI are motivated to give blood because it is an opportunity to do good unto others as written in the holy scriptures in Titus 3:14; “And let our people learn to devote themselves to good works, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not be unfruitful.” Written by: Sister Marfel Niocena-Fernandez
